Distill — Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 20, 2026
Distill turns a photographed or uploaded document into a structured summary.
This page explains what data Distill collects, how it's used, and who it's
shared with.
Documents you submit
-
When you submit a photo or file, it's sent to
Anthropic's Claude API
to generate the summary, extracted fields, and tags. See Anthropic's own
privacy policy for how they handle data submitted through their API.
-
By default, your original file is deleted from Distill's servers
immediately after it's successfully processed — it is never stored
longer than that. If processing fails, nothing is stored either; you
simply resubmit.
-
You can choose to keep the original file on Distill's servers via the
"Keep original file" toggle on the review screen (off by default). You
can turn this off again at any time, which deletes the stored copy.
Account information
Signing in uses Firebase Authentication (Google, Apple, or email/password).
Distill's account record stores only:
- Your authentication identity (a unique account ID, and your email address if you sign in with email or if your Google/Apple account provides one)
- Your credit balance and purchase history (see below)
We don't collect your name, physical address, or any other profile
information beyond what's listed above.
Purchases
-
Web purchases are processed by Stripe.
Distill never sees or stores your card number — Stripe handles that
directly. Distill's records only include the amount paid, currency,
number of credits granted, and Stripe's own transaction reference,
used to keep your credit balance accurate and to investigate payment
issues if they come up.
-
Purchases made through the iOS or Android app use Apple's or Google's
in-app purchase systems, governed by
Apple's
and
Google's
own privacy policies for payment data.
What we don't do
- We don't run advertising or ad-tracking SDKs.
- We don't use analytics tracking beyond what's needed to operate the service.
- We don't sell your data to anyone.
Where data is stored
Account and credit-balance data is stored using Google Firebase/Firestore.
Document processing runs through Anthropic's API. Web payments run
through Stripe. Each of these providers has its own security practices
and privacy policy, linked above.
Deleting your data
You can turn off "Keep original file" retention yourself at any time from
the review screen. To request deletion of your account (auth identity and
credit/purchase history), see our
account deletion page.
Children's privacy
Distill is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly
collect personal information from children under 13.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date above.
